about

File Under Spunk Rock. Emmy Hyde took a cool photo of Dick Hyde and knew it was album cover worthy. Then there was an offer by molly BANG to add ugly tunes to this beautiful photo. The agreement happened with a promise to add a thank you song to Mr. Dick. It quickly inspired a collection of 48 tracks from the band, one half songs that are almost normal and the other half not. If played on repeat each of the 24 songs is sandwiched in between a track that is either found sound, spoken word, acapella, experimental, clips from random films or some other nonsense.

Most of the songs were recorded between 2017 to 2019, besides a few, one of which was recorded in 2010, and another in 2012. Usually albums start with a concept and then one compiles the songs, but this time it was the other way around. Upon recent close inspection this album seems to be about life. About childhood and getting older. About growing up. About maturity/immaturity. Clocking in at around 70 minutes there is plenty of weirdness to go around for everyone (at least those that like weirdness). If you have an appreciation for the lo-fi, of the out of tune guitar, of farts, poorly recorded demos of future (s)hits, hints of punk, potty dances, stories of twin gynecologists, or B horror movies, then maybe check this out (maybe).

We had a plethora of people on these recordings, including eight year old Max Danger (who came up with the album title). We had two wonderful guests/honorary band members on here as well, Patrick Luckett of 87 and Paul H. Daug of Leftover Hot Dogs, adding even more layers to this gorgeous mess. We include covers by Cat Stevens, Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, Garth Brooks, Luke McDaniels, Frank Black and the Catholics, Love, The Muffs, Raymond Scott, The Beatles, and The Gun Club. For those that are fans of lo-fi Beck/Ween/Moldy Peaches, that is a sound it appears we (occasionally) take inspiration from. This is rated PG-13.
